    Plaquenil changed your hair

I've always had very thick and straight hair, but now I can see through the scalp and the little regrowth is so much thinner and wavy. I am now on Plaquenil (started 2 weeks ago) My question is: does Plaquenil help with hair regrowth?

Jun 14, 2009 Imagine both our surpise when my hair was as red as Lucille Ball's! She was able to put a toner on it and take most of the red out, but it was scary for a few minutes! I came home and checked the Internet and found that Plaquenil does indeed change your hair color- and the chemicals can cause your hair to turn red! I took 400 mg Plaquenil for 1-1/3 years, then dropped to 200 mg. With lifestyle changes, it's helped a overall, hair included. But I still have episodes, which affect my hair some, but not nearly as much as before. I have to baby my hair strengthening conditioner, towel gently & then dry with a gentle dryer, wear hats, etc. Dec 12, 2019 Losing Hair on Plaquenil The 5 Possibilities. Hydroxychloroquine also known by its popular brand name Plaquenil is an oral medication that is commonly used to treat a variety of autoimmune diseases including systemic lupus, dermatomyositis, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren’s and many other conditions as well.

I am really interested in feedback regarding Plaquenil and hair growth. JPCA, I had hair thinning & severe breakage along the hairline, but not as severe as you described, I think... FYI, I don't have alopecia, and I never had "discoid" (scarring) lesions on my scalp. Anyone experience positive results from taking Plaquenil, if so, how long did it take to grow hair back.

  7. My hairdresser said that, although my hair was falling out, new hair was growing back. I was able to see this particularly around my temples. Also, when I stopped taking plaquenil to change to Sulphasalazine, my hair returned to normal. I hope this makes you fell a bit happier with your situation. Mazie

Dec 01, 2011 Hi! I've had a bizarre hair side effect, as well. I've got naturally very dark hair, but after 6 months of plaquenil I swear it's turning red! I keep finding more and more red hair growing in. The texture hasn't changed but I'm still weirded out! I'm wondering wtf my hair will be like in another 6 months. Plaquenil is one crazy drug. While Plaquenil may change th hair structure, it doesn't cause severe hair loss. You need to discuss this with your rheumatologist. When my hair was falling like crazy my rheumatologist said that's a minor symptom by comparison with the rest and it didn't warrant immunosuppressive a on top of Plaquenil. Jul 29, 2019 Coming to the next part of your question, there are no pills to change eye color or hair color. Few medicines change the color of your hair and skin and even eye but only as a side effect. To use such drugs with the sole purpose of changing hair color would be totally inappropriate and dangerous.

  9. Hydroxychloroquine Side-effects, uses, time to work Hydroxychloroquine is taken in tablet form, with or after food. Your doctor will advise you about the correct dose. Usually you will start on a full dose of 200–400 mg daily, and later your doctor may reduce this. When your condition is very well controlled you may be advised to take hydroxychloroquine only 2–3 times per week.
